Question

Can I upload Move when I am offline?

Assuming I am mountain biking in the jungle for 15 days with my laptop but NO internet access. (I will bring battery pack for my watch)

My watch has limited capacity and it wont allow me to store all 15 days of training data/moves. I need to transfer them to Movescount in order to clear up storage space on my watch. How do I do that when i dont have internet access?

Thanks

When you connect your Ambit to a PC the Moves are transferred to the PC. If the PC doesn't currently have internet access then the Moves will be stored on the PC until an internet connection is available, at which point the Moves will be uploaded to your account.

When hiking I get 'spikes' in the data.

The route shown on google maps has significant spikes off the path which I didn't take. The same happens with speed where I am suddenly walking at 20+ km/h

We would recommend to perform a forced firmware update to your Suunto Ambit, you can do this once you have the watch connected to your computer by right clicking on the Moveslink2 symbol on your toolbar. You can also reset the GPS, this can be done after entering the service menu in the watch by pressing and holding the two upper buttons for 10 seconds.

Question

moveslink 2 '0 moves stored'

Moveslink 2 (v1.1.11) has stored the xml file correctly in appdata/roaming/suunto/moveslink2 on windows 7 pc. However Moveslink still shows 0 Moves stored after all other watch synchronisation is complete. Network is fine and permissions set in my Movescount account for Moveslink.

Any clues as to why Moveslink has all of a sudden today not synchronised my latest move to my Movescount account?

Thanks,
Hamish.

Some Ambit users have experienced a temporary problem with the data transfer but the issue has now been solved by the technicians. Please reconnect your Ambit to the computer. The traning logs should automatically be transferred to Movescount.

Question

Are there plans to add GPS altimeter as well as barometric?

It would be usful to have an alternative to barometric when the reading is clearly wrong. I always calibrate before I leave home but on driving to start of hike the reading does not match the known altitude from topological map. eg. start from home at 172m which is correct drive to known 1208m start point but reading 1137m. 70m difference.

The barometric altimeter is used in the Suunto Ambit mainly because it gives more accurate readings than a GPS based altimeter.

Question

Any plans to link data on graph to position on map?

On other software it is possible to track across graph, eg. altitude and a marker shows your position on the map. I really like this feature and have to export to other software to use it. (unfortunately data doesnt transfer accurately from movescount to Endomondo or wikiloc)

Unfortunately, it is not possible to change the unit of the x-axis of the charts. It is also not possible to merge the data of several different charts on Movescount. The next software update of the Suunto Ambit will take place at the end of September 2012.

Multisport feature

Is there a multisport feature in the Ambit roadmap?

With multisport feature I mean the possibility for triathletes to swap between swim, bike and run during one move. Today one has to start three individual moves.

At the moment it is not possible to change the sports mode during one Move. For triathletes, for example, it might be useful to use the lap function of the Suunto Ambit when changing the activity.

It is possible, however, that this feature will be developed further in the future. Any feedback and improvement ideas concerning the Ambit can be sent directly to the email address ambit@suunto.com (please write in English or in Finnish). Question

My move did not made it into Movescount

Hi there,

Jus invested last week in a Ambit watch. After finishing my move, I connected the Ambit to the computer (iMac), like I have been doing the last couple of days. The moveslink2 screen showed the data being taken from the watch, but ...after finishing this data-transfer, the move did not showed up in Movescount.

Is the data still on the computer or in the watch, and is there a way, this data can stil be transferred into Movescount?

Thanks in advance for your advice and tips.

Kind regards,

Marcel

The problem was most probably due to incorrect data in the logs, which have not been accepted to Movescount. We've created a workaround fix for this, available now. No extra actions needed from you, the pending Moves should transfer the next time you synchronize the watch.

If you're still experiencing issues with uploading Moves, pls contact our Contact Center www.suunto.com/global/en/support/contact-us for detailed assistance.”

Question

What is the memory log capacity with GPS and Altimeter on, but not HR?

What is the memory log capacity with GPS and Altimeter on , but not the HR belt. It looks like the Ambit will continue to record while it is charging, so I just need to know when it will start to overwrite itself on the circular memory log.

The Suunto Ambit memory capacity is more or less the same as the Ambit battery duration, it mostly depends on the GPS. If you choose 1 second fix to the GPS the memory capacity is 15 hours, with the 60 second GPS fix the memory capacity is 50 hours. It doesn´t make a great difference in the memory capacity whether you have the altimeter or the HR recording on.

Question

BMI value settings - Can I override the calculated BMI setting

BMI value settings - Can I override the calculated BMI setting because it's so far off it says I'm fat~
- (Height is 180cm / weight is 84.82kg) = BMI 26.2 Overweight
If the calculated BMI in the Ambit is used for other calculations then they will all be off for me.
BMI uses only weight and Height and does not account for body structures differences like muscles or body frame size.
Last time I had it measures my BMI was 15.

Thanks

Question

ANT+ pods

Hi there,

I am using the Ambit HR for a couple of days now and am looking to enhance indoor trainings by using a foot pod. Unluckily the Suunto foot pod does not support ANT+ standard which obviously limits compatibility.

This raises some questions:
When will Suunto devices like the HR belt or the foot pod be upgraded to ANT+ standard?
If I use a 3rd party foot pod with ANT+ it shall work with the Ambit and its latest firmware; however, will calibrating it be possible the same way it is described for the Suunto one?
When will there be a pod available to improve temperature indications on the ambit or at least compatibility with the ANT+ ones from 3rd party?

Question

Is it possible to get distance to POI for apps?

I would like to use a POI for a lap timer. So, make a finish line the POI and do something like:

if distanceToPOI - 20(ft) == 0{ autolap }

Also, are there plans for a more robust app dev API for the ambit?

Question

Moves not syncing with Moveslink2

My Ambit of 1 week is now not syncing moves with Movescount. I have 2 moves from the past two mornings that will not move to Movescount. i have attempted to sync the Ambit multiple times on different ports on the PC. The Moveslink 2 progression report also suggests all moves have been synced. This is not the case.

I have Moves Link 2 installed (V1.1.19) on a windows PC.

I have tried reinstalling Moveslink 2 and restarting the computer several times with no success.

I am very frustrated with the product, and considering that the top bevel has already dented and scratched from being sat on a desk (nothing rough), I am seriously beginning to question the quality of the product which is still less than 1 week old.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Question

two problems ..

1. is it just my watch or is the Ambit really slow at downloading data? Seems to take ages.. several minutes...

2. After my last run, I connected it and it keeps bombing out during download... so I can't see my move yet... I've tried several times now...

moveslink Mac - just silently disappears during download...

1. I sync my Ambit to a Windows machine. Yes, it's very slow, so it's not just you or the Mac OS.

2. I have noticed that the power clip/watch connection is sensitive to movement. Make sure the clip is fully seated and protect the watch and clip from movement and vibration while downloading. An intermittent connection can cause issues with the Moveslink software.

I believe Suunto needs to address the download speed.

Laps on a GoKart circuit

I would like my Ambit to record the laps automatic when I drive GoKart.
Do I then use automatic laps based on the distance ? Problem here is automatic lap only one digit meaning accuracy 100meter.
