You can change the initial settings in the M4 by putting the unit into sleep mode.

1. In TIME mode, press and hold the middle button to enter settings
2. Scroll though all settings until you reach 7/7 and the watch asks "Ready? yes/no". Instead of pressing yes or no, press and hold the middle button for about 10 seconds.
3. When the display is completely empty, wake up the watch by pressing the middle button.
4. Instead of holding the upper button for 2 seconds as the M4 suggests, press and hold the middle button for about 10 seconds.
5. Scroll through the settings with the middle button until the watch asks "Factory reset". Select yes. Watch will go back to sleep mode.
6. When the display is completely empty, wake up the watch by pressing the middle button.
7. Follow the M4 instructions and enter the initial settings. .

Question

Watch keeps reseting

I've had my watch with 1.5 years now and I just recently started using it more often. I use the heart rate monitor to monitor how far I am to target during my runs. After the run when I stop the monitor, it would go into a soft reset state. The screen would blank out and then the settings menu to come up with the language setting question. However, all my previous settings still there, just annoying that it keeps jumping to the settings menu.

Is my battery low already?

If the watch is resetting itself then this problem can normally be solved by purchasing a battery kit. The battery kit contains a battery, battery cover and rubber o-ring. If you change only the battery then in certain cases the watch may reset itself. Please contact your local retailer to enquire about purchasing a battery kit.

Question

M4 not reading properly, what do I do?

Hi,
My M4 doesn't read properly. One minute I start it then 30 seconds later it has no reading(haven't moved etc).
Another reading was 165....then no reading....then 82 all within a minute whilst standing still.
Other times the first reading is 200+, AGAIN hadn't even started moving.
I have the correct placement, have wet the contacts(doesn't make a difference. Haven't washed the belt yet....bit afraid it will void warranties and not sure how hot to wash it in etc.
Have removed the battery, put in backwards then reinserted it the right way around but again didn't work.

Frustrated it's not working....about to bloody give up and go to another brand!!!
Thanks for any help.

If you are getting incorrect hr data, you should make sure that the hr belt is worn tightly against the skin and that the contacts are moist throughout the training session.
Also note that you need to replace the battery in the belt approximately once a year and wash the elastic part of the hr belt in the washing machine after every 5th training session in 40 degrees Celcius.

During exercises you can press the middle button to see in real time the duration, your HR and additionally your average HR, kcal consumption, the heart rate zone you are in and the time. Unfortunately there is no option on the Suunto M4 model to be able to see heart rate as % of max.

Question

HR found no HR shown & HR sticking during exercise

Hi,

I use my HR monitor daily for approx an HR, the last couple of weeks the readings have become unreliable.

I have replaced the battery on the watch and belt and repaired without it making a difference.

Sometimes when you go to start a session it says HR found, but doesn't return a HR, other-times the HR doesn't move e.g. it might get stuck on 120 even though you are varying your intensity and if you measure your HR independently to the watch, they are clearly different.

Contact points are wet and are stuck to the body.

Any tips on how to fix this.

Cheers

Before you put the belt on, please make sure that the sensors are moist with water. Keep it tight on your body, right below your chest with the round module in the front and with the red little arrow pointing upwards.
Also it's recommended to wash off the belt each after work out with lukewarm water and mild soap (not the round module, just the textile strap). Wipe off the sensors carefully with a towel and let it try.
After every 5-8th work out it's good if you wash the textile section of the belt in a washing machine on a delicate program (under 40 degrees Celsius) and without detergent and softener. Sometimes there might be dirt that gets stuck to the sensors of the belt or on the small clips that goes into the round part of the belt and then it the recording of the heart rate will be inaccurate.

If this doesn't solve the issue, please contact us via support@suunto.com

Question

Kcal

I have seen this question "answered" before but I don't think the answer was very clear.

Quite simply: the M4 displays "kcal" burnt.
In this instance, does kcal refer to what most people/dieticians etc refer to as calories?
Therefore, "100 kcal" = "100 calories"?

I'm aware the scientific conversion may be different - I just want to know if the M4 is referring to the "common calorie".

Please check if you can change the display by hitting the middle button. If this works, hit the middle button repeatedly until you see "Factory reset? Yes/No". Then you can select "Yes" to retrieve the default setting to your M4. If the display is stuck and you cannot get out of it, please contact the retailer of purchase for their assistance in having your M4 examined at one of our service centers.

You can delete history by setting the factory setting on the M4. First put the device into sleep mode.
1. Press any button to activate the device. Wait until the unit wakes up and says hold 2 sec. Keep the middle button pressed to enter the factory setting.
3. Press the middle button for many times until you see “factory reset”. Press the upper right button then the device will enter sleep mode.

What kind of information is upload to movesount with the movestick mini?

The M4 does not store the heart rate at individual intervals so you will not see a heart rate graph when you transfer a Move to the software.

Some of our products such as the Quest, t6d, t4d and t3d can however display a heart rate vs. time plot.
