Question

How can I clean out the compass?

I was hiking in the desert and fine sand has worked its way in between the baseplate and housing. It makes it difficult to shoot an accurate azimuth using the mirror.

Question

Is MC-2 working well?

I bought Sunnto Mc-2 Explorer from Malaysia and I will use it in Singapore. It is made in Finland. Will my MC-2 work accurately in Asia?
I noted that the MC-2 is balanced for the northern or for the southern hemisphere, the balancing zone depends on where the compass was purchased.
Any effect from above issue on my MC-2.
Thanks,

Since your compass was purchased from Malaysia and you will use it in Singapore, you should encounter no issue using it there.

There are two versions of the MC-2 compass. The MC-2 is balanced for the northern or for the southern hemisphere, the balancing zone depends on where the compass was purchased. If you use a compass that is balanced for the northern hemisphere in Australia, unfortunately it will not work. The other version of the compass is the MC-2 global, it has a global needle and it works everywhere.

The compass is normally sold together with the user manual. You can also use the MC-2 Global manual, it can be found at the URL below:

Question

Will my MC-2 compass work in Tanzania?

I live in California. I have a MC-2 compass and I am going to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro. I believe the declination in Arusha is -0 degrees 10' 54" or as I take it true north and magnetic north are almost exactly the same there. Will my MC-2 work there and do I need to do any special adjustments? Thank you.

You will not need to make any special adjustments, your MC-2 will function normally in the region you plan to visit.
